Apply for a temporary driving licence

You can apply for a temporary driving licence if you have applied for the renewal of your expired licence or have lost your drivers licence.

This licence is valid for only six months and can be issued at any driving licence testing centre (DLTC).

What you should do

  1. Go to the nearest driving licence testing centre with the following:
  2. Gauteng residents should apply online: https://online.natis.gov.za/#/
  3. Complete the Application for a driving licence (DL1) form.
  4. Complete the notification of change of address or particulars of person or organisation (NCP) form.
  5. You will undergo an eye test at the testing centre or you can have an eye test done by qualified optometrist and submit the form at the testing centre.

How long does it take

The temporary driving licence is issued on the same day.
